Tanner Foust is famous mostly for his success in Formula Drift, rallying at the X-Games and even becoming a host on Top Gear USA – but while practicing for the world record attempt at the Indy 500, Foust nearly became famous for either seriously injuring or killing himself after a test jump went wrong.
As the Hot Wheels video narrator explains, the jump being attempted by Foust – known as the “yellow driver” – was a precisely calculated maneuver with very little room for error due to the extreme nature of the stunt. For that very reason, early practice jumps were particularly risky as computer calculations became real-world experiments.
During one jump, Tanner realized that he had accumulated too much speed during his trip towards the launch ramp, and despite letting off the gas, the truck left the ramp at too high of speed, nearly bringing the back end over the front as it landed. Luckily, the truck was equipped with an extremely forgiving suspension with extreme amounts of travel to absorb the off-centered landing.

So how do you see it? Do you think Tanner was at fault for the mishap? Or Does Tanner get credit for pulling off an amazing save during the landing and driving away unharmed?
