What would a 2009 Camaro Convertible look like?

05/06/2006, 4:16 PM

By admin

Artist John McBride created two interesting sketches for Popular Hotrodding of a hypothetical 2009 Camaro Convertible, based on the Chevrolet Camaro Concept. While the Camaro coupe is very likely to see production in 2008 or 2009, we haven’t heard anything about a drop-top model yet. Still, it’s interesting to see how one might look. Writer Ro McGonegal speculates that the Chevy might put together a Camaro Indy Pace Car on the 40th anniversary of the “most famous Indy Pace Car ever” — a 1969 Camaro.

Gawd, will they ever stop with these crappy hill-billy, white-trash dream cars? This whole retro thing needs to just stop. Yeah, American cars enjoyed a wonderful 50’s-60’s era, but those days are long gone. Design for today. Heck, design for tomorrow! Stop making cars for the baby-boomers. If nostalgia is the only way GM can sell a car, gawd help ‘em.

6ix you can always go buy a cookie cutter civic or camry like everyone else if you want. You might want to stop the trash talking, I am far from a hillbilly and own three camaros. A 67, 69 and a 97 at 21 years of age (not exactly a baby boomer huh?) By the way it’s GOD not GAWD, Jessica Simpson has not replaced Webster’s for the correct pronunciation and spelling of the English language.

I think the reason that the whole “retro” thing is here is because the previous cars had no visual appeal at all. The last Mustang, the camaros and firebirds, not to mention less sporty cars from GM and Ford, were all boring. I think the new Mustang looks great, this camaro looks great, and that’s going to help them.

Way to go chi dell. It’s people like you who make American car fans hate import car fans (and import cars). I own a 1997 Toyota Supra and I still feel offended by your stupidity! You’d think I’d be happy complimenting a Supra like that, but no, I think you’re just stupid. Both the Supra and the Camaro are excellent cars.

First things first. To own three Camaros is by deffinition to a hillbilly. One Camaro for old times sake is one thng but.. three? what happen to the first two? are they broke down? I sure hope the new Camaro can brake free from it’s dinosoure predisessors so that it may have.. oh I don’t IRS or maybe a V8 that is not a stupid push rod. I don’t know.. I like the idea of the new Camaro I just hope GM dosn’t “F” it up like so many other cars (Cobalt and the new Impala just to name a few)

And not to be biest, the supra kind of a weak car unless you put money into with after market stuff.

oh and by the way the new Camaro just like the mustang will be just as cookie cutter as hondas and toyotas, I see crappy V6 mustangs all day long and they are weak cars my Mini can out run any V6 mustang and the regular V8 as Well. I am sure the the new Camaro will not be much different. they certainly won’t be any 425hp Camaros out there any time soon to compete with the likes of the Charger SRT8 or the 300C SRT8 or the much talked about future Challenger.

well… v6 cars are really poseur cars anyway… and if your mini can outrun a mustag gt, someone isnt trying… they will do a camaro with a pushrod v8 and 400 horses… they already have 2, 3 such engines already to choose from… as for irs, the zeta platform should have that… gm knows the zeta cars must compete with the chrysler LY cars and the mustang or else…
and there aint nothing wrong with owning 3 camaros… would you call collectors hillbillies for doing so?

I hardly think the Camaro is a ‘hillbilly’ car – because white Americans lust after it, it’s a hillbilly car? Hardly! That’s about as ridiculous as saying that VW’s are ‘Nazi’ cars, because Germans drive ‘em. No, this car is wonderfully exciting and one that pulls strings of anyone who loved the muscle cars of years gone by.

If it goes into production, the higher-spec versions will be absolutely brilliant. 400HP LS2, brand-new Zeta RWD platform and with looks to kill? You can’t say no to that, surely! Let’s just hope the beancounters at GM don’t spoil the fun.

Frogger: none of my cars are broken down, they are all kept covered in a heated garage. My 67 and 69 are restored clones and my 30th anniversary has 32K mi on it. I have an Escalade as my daily driver, you know like every other hillbilly. Were my Camaros sitting on blocks rusting in my front lawn, then I would of course be a hillbilly, but that is so far from the truth that it is ridiculous. Now I know that most people my age are not in quite as fortunate a situation, but I still take offense to the hillbilly comment. I’m just trying to point out that you don’t have to be some poor redneck to drive a Camaro. By the way I think Supras are great cars, I would never bash them at all. Although I certainly don’t like when people say that their Supra or RX-7 will walk all over any Viper or Z06, as we all know that while they are great sports cars in their own right, they are not quite on that level.

No thanks, I’ll take a 67′. GM is way too consistant these days which means this car will be a hack. After 12 years since my last Vette, they almost won me over with the Solstice until I took one out for a spin and the rear diff failed on the test drive.

Hey, there just tired of getting spanked at the track and on the road, haven’t met a rice lover yet that can handle that. You too could probably make a yugo (or what ever) into the fastest car in the world with add ons and stripping down the cars weight to about 1 thousand pounds. It all depends how much money and time you put into it. Pound for pound camaros/firebirds were and still will be the best bang for your buck if you want pure performance, and want a daily drive car. Too many cars out there are cookie cut. Asian cars are just indistinguishable face it. Also as for GPM with all those mods and changes they get the same or worse. So if any there argument would be for a better interior, oh that’s right they don’t have any if they had to strip them to get those better track times.

Everyone just need to calm down. There’s no reason to attack an entire group of people just because one feels a car isn’t great. If you like a car, a compliment is appreciated. If you don’t like a car, then that’s fine too. Everyone have the right to their personal beliefs and it’s immature to make generalistic judgements about a group of people because of their prefernece for a car. Eventually this site will become a racial bashing site instead of a car site. I’m sure those who complain about japanese cars must own one themselves, if not you have no right to complain. Those who think American cars are inferior should drive one yourself too before you judge. Don’t jump to conclusions before understanding something. Making stereotypical remarks isn’t going to help your point accross. Some people will be ignorant, there’s no need to sink to their level.

Like I said before, I know first hand that the Supra is an incredible car (I love mine!) but just because it’s awesome, doesn’t mean you should go bashing other cars. Jeez… chances are you don’t even own a Supra! You’ve probably never even driven one! lol

I think retro 60s is great and just in time for the next gas crisis. Just think GM can do again with this Camaro what they did to the original one in the 1970s, saddle-it with new power-sucking pollution preventing equipment and design-by-committee styling. Who says you can’t make the same mistakes twice?

Just a reminder Chevrolet #1 in US new car sales, and oh yes #1 in used US car sales, and yes GM just posted a profit for this last quarter. BTW cars aren’t the only thing general motors own, and GM has been in allot worse situations like loosing 23 billion dollars in the early mid 90s. Didn’t go under then won’t go under now. In my opinion allot of these rumors are started or perpetuated by other brands and/or people manipulating the stock market. In the 90s crisis the stocks lowered to current levels, but within 5 years quadrupled. I think the diversity in the car market is great, but there’s still no disputing the facts. If you hate every other brand so much chi dell then why don’t you move to were yours is made. I’m sure you’ll enjoy seeing your make every other car complete with zit popping jerks just like you, with the same color and same options. I can say this with confidence 10 years later my camaro still gets attention. But enough with this BS my car, no my car is the best just be happy and grateful for what you have, probably not a Supra.

run to japan i dont want to lose my insurance and pay doctor bills for knocking you out like the others.

dont want to go to deep if you really want to know im starting to think you are a kid or just retarded. you spend all this time talking about an american car you must be interested.

Ok, I agree, Supras are sweet cars! Fast and sexy, plenty of aftermarket parts. But hear this; There is always a faster and better car! Because a Supra can beat a Camaro doesnt mean a Camaro is a ****ty car! There are plenty of cars that would kill that tin can, does that make a Supra is ****ty? No. This Camaro isnt even approved for anything yet, but as the stats are right now; it would kill a Supra in speed and MPG (upto 30MPG)! You can take your $50K youve invested into your $30K car and keep it! Ill take my “cheap” American car, and be fast, good on gas, and be able to get parts. Good luck with that on your import! Anything you can do to your car, we can do to our cars. So get YOUR head out of your ass, get over yourself and your car, and complain about it to your little ricer pals!
