Who Killed the Electric Car?

Sony Pictures has put together a new documentary on the demise of electric car programs at many automakers. Called “Who Killed the Electric Car?” the film opens on June 28th in New York and Los Angeles. The film seems to echo the sentiments of advocate Doug Korthof, who recently said oil companies are responsible for preventing development of such cars. Movie trailer after the jump…

This “Doug Korthof” is wasting his time. The electric car died because it simply did not work. It didn’t work in 1997 and it won’t work in 2006.

I drive an electric Toyota RAV 4 EV and I love it, especially now with gas prices so high. I’ve driven mine over 54,000 miles without a single problem and the electricity costs 1/4 what gas would cost me per mile. I come homw, plug in. and wake up every morning with a full take of “fuel.” These cars are amazing. They work, they’re utterly reliable, and they’re far cheaper to drive. If you want to make the oil companies unhappy, start demanding more plug-in vehicles be made.
