Wiesmann GT MF5 details revealed

German boutique sports car maker Wiesmann revealed details on its newest handmade creation, the 507 horsepower MF5 coupe on Thursday. The MF5 is the company’s most capable sports car to date, and is loosely based on the MF4 coupe, though is larger in every dimension and packs 140 more horsepower thanks to the BMW M5-sourced V10 engine under its long hood. With a seven-speed SMG transmission, performance is rated at 3.9 seconds in the sprint to 62mph, with a 192 mph top speed, all in a package that weighs just a little over 3,040 lbs thanks to an aluminum chassis and composite body panels.

Because of the higher performance, Weismann engineers decided to spend some time developing the car’s aerodynamics, and fitted the MF5 with a rear diffuser and spoiler to help keep it planted at speed. BMW’s ABS as well dynamic stability control (DSC) systems were also integrated into the MF5.

Grip on the road is offered by the big 19-inch tires, 245mm wide up front and 275mm on the rear drive wheels. The occupants, meantime, are held in place thanks to custom-fitted seats, which can also be ordered in carbon fiber. Braking is handled by massive two-piece and cross-drilled and vented 14.7-inch front discs and 14.6-inch rotors out back.

Starting at the equivalent of around $280,000 the MF5 goes on sale this spring outside of North America and can be outfitted with custom carbon fiber parts.

So they took a new BMW Z4 Coupe… stretched the front end… and slapped a V10 under there. Am I the only one who is not impressed?

Oh the Wiesmann. How can I explain thee? lol They certainly produce unique vehicles, and I like the looks of this a lot. I like how they try to incorporate a modern looks with a classic roadster form. (although those lights look they were taken straight from TVR) And this one seems to packing some good performance. I guarantee you’d be one of the only people on the block to have this car. Yet another toy for the ultra rich.

A lot of the BMW higher ups buy these things. Supposedly beautifully built and go like a scalded cat; reminds me of a retro TVR.

Man that’s a lot of hood. This needs a backup camera at the front end.

I didn’t see any SMG transmission. Looks like a standard 6-speed.

I love it.

Just a brilliant work of sculpture, if nothing else..

Fortunately, cars with this look aren’t easy to name or they wouldn’t be special.

this is a stunning car-
raineman- even if they did just take a Z4 coupe and did whatever to it-
are you saying you aren’t impressed either with the Shelby Cobra 427, since it’s also just an ordinary car with a big V8 and some suspension work done to it.

Definitely more like a TVR than Z4 other than both have 2 doors. As for the sequential, somebody needs to learn their cars, thats the BMW tranny with a boot around it. Just look at the wheel, if it was a 6 speed there would be no need for paddles. And the price is about what the used cars are selling for in Europe right now, last ones I saw on the Wiessman site was just over 125k E so about 200-215K USD. This is also the car they are working on bringing to the US market in late 08 or 09.

I’d like it more if the headlights were under Perspex or something. They look too tacked on.

This is nothing like a Z4, get real. And it’s a whole lot more reliable than Blackpool’s new Russian TVR cars. For a start, the electrics work (what there are of them). And it handles as well as a Lotus. Seriously. A serious Brit roadster, just, well, German. It is a work of art as well as engineering. Those with prejudices…Beware.
