Security cameras in Russia’s recently-completed Lefortovo Tunnel captured some pretty wild high-speed car accidents. The 3.2 km tunnel appears rather cramped, but that doesn’t stop any of these drivers from traveling at ridiculous speeds, nor has it prevented from being generally careless. See the video after the jump…

Fake video??? Where does the second truck come from at the end of the video. It shows a head-on collision, but there’s no truck there beforehand! Maybe they spliced together two different angles of a more typical crash to make it seem spectacular…

That tunnel must be covered in ice… the way the car moves look like there’s no traction.
And that last scene with the two trucks is cognitively impossible for me. Looks like the second truck teleported out of the wall, traveling through time to visit another copy of itself. Spooky. But then again it’s Russia, so space aliens must be behind it.

Regarding the last crash with the two trucks, as this is a one-way tunnel there probably is a second tunnel next to it and the truck just drove through the wall between those tunnels.

I think the chops in the video are due to changing cameras from one where the crash started to another one a little further down the line so we can see the end of the crash.

I think “a nonymous” is right about the trucks… it looks like the second one came right through the wall. I wish they had the video of the other side so we could see how the truck managed to make it through the wall.

I think that ‘the second truck’ is there all along, in front and to the left of the truck you can see. It’s just obscured from view by the first truck driving so close behind it.

I live in Bucharest, you should try once to drive at rush hours here. Images? I think there is all true and that the speed is the main problem… not vodka(which I enjoy also)… I’ve been in Moskow and I can tell that they drive fast… and funny … In US you have no idea of this kind of speed on this roads… go Germany first…than go Turkey (fight the trucks!) and Bulgary (on the mountains in a rainy day), than go to Moskow. Want to have fun driving… come in Bucharest. Do not go Holland … do you know why?

The bus made in Hungary. Type Ikarus 435. Yeeess…almost flying:). But the driver’s skills are magnificent. http://www.vonatka.hu/ikarus_412_415_435.htm
As is saw, not the high speed is the only reason for these accidents. There are few divers not using sings changing track. It’s pervading here in Hungary unfortunatelly too.

I believe the 2nd truck comes in with a merge lane. Study the map in the following link and
you will notice many merges that appear to be part of the underground.

it all has to do with the periferal vision and creation of an invisible high speed perception. remember driving in an enclosure you seem to go faster. if you panic or make a sudden move you loose control. driver could be loosing control because of the real fast speeds interfiering with their perception of a speed that their minds create due to the lighting and narrow tunnel vision. srry for mispeling im in a hurry.

Blatantly copying from Wikipedia:
“Lefortovo tunnel (Russian: Лефортовский тоннель or Russian: Лефо́ртово тоннель) is a road tunnel in the Lefortovo District in Moscow, Russia. It is a part of the Third Ring road. At 2.2 km (1.4 miles) long, it is the fifth longest in-city tunnel of Europe (after the Dublin Port Tunnel at 4.5 km, the Södra länken in Stockholm at 4.5 km, the Giovanni XXIII Tunnel in Rome at 2.9 km and North-Western Tunnel in Moscow at 2.8 km).
The tunnel runs under the Yauza River, and water leaks in at some points. When the temperature reaches −38 degrees Celsius (as during the winter of 2005), the road surface can freeze.
It has been nicknamed “The Tunnel of Death” due to its high accident rate and a video circulating around the Internet compiling footage of vehicle accidents recorded by monitoring cameras.”
