Wild hillclimb race video

03/15/2006, 2:56 PM

By admin

Our friends at Jalopnik pointed us to an incredible video of the Audi R8 race car tackling a twisty hillclimb track. The power of the car is stunning, and the camera angle makes it extremely entertaining. [via] Update: One LLN reader says the car is in fact a Norma M20, not an Audi R8.Video after the jump…

Err, i’m not sure whether this is really an Audi R8 ….
You see, the right mirror should be mounted elsewhere … as can be seen if you take a look around the web and some on-board shots.
Even the 1999-R8 has the mirrors mounted elsewhere, in addition to that the bodywork is more even in the area around the steering wheel. Whatever car it is, it’s not an Audi, i think. Or did they do a major facelift?

Apart from that, impressive ride.

Its not an Audi R8, its some French sports car with an BMW engine, can’t find which one right now.

Don’t know where you people get your info, but that’s definitely not an Audi R8.

After scouring the net, it’s a french car called Norma M20. Weighs 605kg, powered by a 400hp BMW engine (apparently from an M3)

That video was starting to make me queasy(sp?) from just watching. Makes me sad that I will proably never get to drive a car like that.

That’s just amazing !!!

Just as another comment to this scene, this is located in southern france, close to Marseille, in the Sainte Baume mountain, while you exit Marseille towards Aubagne & Toulon, exit the highway at Aubagne take the road to Gémenos and then start in the village climbing to the Sainte Baume, trust me, don’t matter whatever car you’re using, this road is just as enjoyable and fun as it can be !!!!

So if by any chance one day or another you’re hangin’ around in the area, just try it !!!

See ya’

I’d just want to confirm definitely that the car is a Norma M20, fitted with a BMW M3 engine (400 bhp). The driver is Alain Castellana, a very experienced hillclimber in France.
About 60 Norma M20 were sold from 2003 to 2006, running in endurance races (as V de V championship in France) all around Europe, or also in hillclimbing races.
Most of them has been fitted with a 2 liters Honda engine.
