Will BMW’s 2007 X5 look like this?

04/26/2006, 2:38 PM

By admin

Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport magazine has a computer rendering of what it says is the 2007 BMW X5. Although AMS is sometimes noted for its imaginative rather than factual renderings, we suspect this one could be telling. The new X5 will likely be unveiled late this year, and available in spring 2007. With that in mind, we’re sure many folks ‘in the know’ have already seen the car. The Leftlane Perspective: We’ve never really been fans of the “chrome strip through the taillights/trunk” design theme. BMW did it on the current 7-Series, and Volvo more or less did it with the 2007 S80. An no, we don’t like the chrome lip on the 2007 Infiniti G35, either. We love chrome, but these applications don’t look good.

I don’t know if it will look like this, and I won’t argue with the ‘chrome strip’ commentary, but I will say this:

At least it isn’t as ugly as the X3.

No, this is not what the 2007 X5 is going to look like. #2 is right, just a chop of an X3.

That doesn’t even look like a BMW. I can’t imagine BMW designing something like this that could pass as a less expensive Japanese compact SUV–a Suzuki, or something.

I just got back from the BMW factory in SC. Would’ve taken a tour but they’ve halted tours for a while for “Product Development” which an employee told me that they’ve already got the new x5’s going. Didn’t get to see anything though. :-/
