Will BMW’s X6 look like this?

09/13/2006, 11:54 PM

By admin

Germany’s Auto Motor und Sport magazine has put together an illustration of how the forthcoming BMW X6 crossover coupe could look. Based on the latest rumors out of Bavaria, the illustration depicts a vehicle with an X5-like front and a Z4-like rear. While the rendering may seem bizarre, all recent rumors have point to a vehicle very much like this one. BMW officials have even acknowledged such a product is in development. The car is expected to arrive as a 2010 production model, with a concept arriving much sooner. [See the full image].

Now that’s just ridiculous. It looks exactly like an X5 front mated to a Z4 body, I agree.

I love most BMW models, I love the new 5 series, pre-face lift 7 series, even M coupe from few years back, those seem to be most hated BMW designs, but this is just plain stupid. Anybody remember Isuzu VehiCROSS? This seems like it is made to compete against it, although it has not been on the market for 5 years now.

I love the idea, but I am more for a crossover 4-door than a coupe. Something like a beefier Audi Allroad would be my idea for a crossover from BMW. Of course, it should not look quite as ugly as this rendering. I try not to pay too much attention to these as they never look right. I had high hopes for the VW Tiguan when I first saw the drawings, but the pictures of the prototype they were testing looked nothing like it.

I wish AMS and all the other lousy magazines would stop to make such fakes just to sell their worthless bunches of paper.

I thought they were gunning for the Infiniti FX with this range. But with this picture, it seems like they took inspiration from the ugly Spyker SUV coupe concept with a ridiculously long name Paris to Peking or something. I hope the BMW stylists get the message.

If they introduce this it will fail. real X6 will have far more utility than this. It can still have an x5 front and z4 rear without being a 2 seater

BMW and Mercedes need to stop creating new market segments just for the sake of having them. How many two door SUVs are even still on the market right now? Just the Wrangler that I can think of off the top of my head and it is offered in a four door now.

I don’t get it. If I consider this car, I’d also consider the performance SUVs like the Miurano, Infiniti FX, or Mazda’s offering. And of this list, I’d probably go with Mazda.
