Will the 2007 Mercedes CL 65 AMG look like this?

06/28/2006, 5:18 PM

By admin

André Schaefer of CWWDesign provided us with an excellent rendering of how the 2007 Mercedes CL65 AMG will likely look. The 2007/2008 Mercedes CL-Class was only unveiled on Monday, but that didn’t stop André from creating an illustration of how the high-performance variants will look. Currently, there is debate over what AMG models will be offered. The range-topping CL 65 is a given, but that’s less clear is what model will be slotted beneath it. With Mercedes phasing out its 5.4-liter V8, a CL55 looks somewhat unlikely. On the other hand, offering CL63 and CL65 models could pose a bit of a marketing problem, since numerically their names would be very close. Either way, you can bet the cars will look pretty close to Mr. Schaefer’s rendering — the design elements match both recent spy photos and other recently-introduced AMG models. Image after the jump…

Abother of CWWs fantasys. It wasn’t too hard to speculate as to how it would look so why waste the Photoshop time?

Predictable, but impressive-looking nonetheless. At least they’ve got consistency.

As for how one could look at anything other than AMG models, easy: they don’t offer a single vehicle with a manual transmission. No manual transmission, it’s not a real sports car, as far as I’m concerned (or at least not one worth lusting after).

Recent intune autos are just as good as manuals for shifting.

New AMGs will most likely be paired up with the the 7G auto (if it can handle the torque!). It is a very nice auto. shifts are perfectly smooth and rarely noticable.

In terms of sheer performance…the 7G can probably outshift any average driver.

Fun factor…is a different story! : )

Agreed, of course there are automatics and certainly automanuals like DSG that can shift faster than a skilled manual-transmission driver. But it’s just not the complete sports-car experience without a clutch pedal under your foot and the gears in your right hand. So much man-machine involvement is lost…

But it sounds like we’re of the same mind on that point.

its a step in the right direction but it looks like they stopped trying to make it aggressive once they finished the front bumper.

this is a pretty safe bet, but I don’t really want amg to get too creative. They might turn out something looking like busta rhymes’ lorinser-ed out s550, which is gross. remember back when all bmw’s were restrained and square, just a little wedgy but some called it bland? bet you’re wishing you could take back those comments now, eh?
