Will the Mercedes S-Class convertible look like this?

06/22/2006, 10:11 AM

By admin

Yesterday, we told you about a new rumor in the German press suggesting Mercedes may introduce a four-door convertible based on the S-Class luxury sedan at the Detroit auto show in January. Today, the folks at CWWDesign.com sent us an excellent artist’s rendering of how such a car could look. See the full image after the jump…

It may be ugly, but where do you see any Bangle stylistic cues on this car?

I don’t think this car is that bad looking. I’m curious to see if they will make this car. I’ve never seen a 4 door convertible. What happens to the b-pillar between the front and rear doors? Does the car have suicide doors? Will there be a support bar that connects the b-pillar if the b-pillar exists?

For these technical reasons, I don’t think MB will be making it. But, I would still like to see it done.

Yeah Merc would never use such a body kit on the S-Class, even though that is the exact body from the S65 AMG . . . You really know your cars JAPAN.

With this entry, the real question is: which is the Ugliest car made in the last 10 years? My Top 3:
1. Pontiac Aztec aka “the car with shapes that even Geometry hasn’t yet created”
2. This S-class Convertible aka “gaudier than God but created by man”
3. Merc C230k “coupe” aka “car that most resembles a basketball”

WTF

It is obvious that the person that rendered this image has no clue about the technical feasibility of a convertible. Just look at the rear door fixed window, and the CLK roof they photo-scrapped on onto the car isn’t even close regarding proportions.

Please give me a break!!

i think that if a 1964 licoln continental 4-door convertible had a market, i dont see why this wouldnt. sure it would be a smaller market, but people will buy them. i would if i had $100k+, but that just isnt the case.

Ewww, whats with the lame taillights design?? They are a premium luxury brand. Those taillights belong on cheap chinese cars worth $5,000. Amber turn signals do not belong on cars worth over $40K.

Oh, Chris Bangle should be SHOT and wipe off the face of Earth. He started the whole crazy big butt design and etc. All other designers followed his style. Im gonna guess in 3 years, the next chevy cobalt sedan will have a big butt like BMW and Mercedes! Then there will no cars to buy or lease since they will be ugly as sin!!!

Wow. Who let the Chrysler designer pen a Mercedes??? Unfortunately this piece of “S” – ha ha, will sell. To rappers and football players. What exactly is the point of Maybach again? This thing looks like a maybach, everyone criticizes GM for badge engineering but what about this???

p.s. – Chris Bangle is a genius. Finally some design! Everyone has copied him, so he’s done something right. Lexus, you guys are the worst. Its so obvious you’ve ditched Mercedes and are now copying BMW. Good move though, cuz Mercedes stinks. But why not buy the real thing instead of a camry or avalon spinoff???

all of you people complaining about the design of the s-class, i don’t blame you for it looking at the pictures, but really, hold your comments until you see the car in person. personally, i found it breathtaking, a day and night difference from pictures, although i still believe the older generation and even the generation before that look uniquely good in their own ways.

of course, i am a bangle fan, but what does that really have to do with it? i mean, the car looks more maybach-esque to me rather than concave/convex blends. anyway, regardles of how you all feel i am sure bangle’s approach has at least something to do with bimmer’s record sales in the past couple of years…

and on the note of this car, the s-class convertible, the idea is completely sick, irresistable. i mean, i thought lexus actually had a chance of one-upping benz with the ls600hl, but if benz really does come out with the car, it will have opened the top on what is arguably the best luxury car in the world. what could be better?

to the guy who screams gm … you can tell the whole country that and those losers will will still lose money on every car they sell; they are in too deep of a whole to get themselves out of and they have already demonstrated that they do not even know how (i mean come on why spend so much money marketing the new tahoe and other big trucks during an era of $3 gas prices – i have not seen anywhere near as many ads for the cobalt) … sorry i have been wanting to do that for a while now ;)

Why not start with a CLS instead? I mean, if it’s really a “coupe,” this is nothing revolutionary. Manufs chop coupe roofs all the time.. or is that not REALLY a coupe, is it mb? IS IT! but seriously, I think the CLS’s faster roofline would be an easier/cleaner chop. You might even be able to make a folding hardtop…..
