Ford announced today that its high-tech Bridgend engine plant in Britain will be used to produce the PAG’s new premium 3.2-litre six-cylinder power unit. The SI6 engine will first be used in 2007 Volvo S80. The fact that Ford refers to Volvo as the “first customer” for the engine seems to suggest that other PAG “customers” will follow. Moreover, the fact that the engine is being built in the U.K. would certainly make putting it into a Jaguar or Land Rover convenient. Perhaps we’ll see it in a new S-type, or perhaps the Land Rover LR2?

that’s a great engine. But you should not love things that can’t or won’t love you back.

They’d be better off with the old 4.0 liter Jag engine. That straight six was making about 25 mpg highway 275hp/275 torque by the end of its run. With modern technology and programming they could probably give it 30 mpg highway and 290hp.

The article states that the first use of this SI6 will be the S80. Actually 2007 XC90’s are going into production with this engine and will be on the market before summer’s end. With variable lift valvetrains and compact design, this is a beautiful powerplant. But what I’m really looking forward to are the turbo versions….
