World leaders to use electric cars at G8 summit

06/29/2006, 10:34 AM

By admin

With a focus on energy conservation during the upcoming 2006 G8 Summit, the Russian government has purchased 30 four-passenger GEM electric vehicles to transport participating government leaders. Each e4 GEM electric vehicle will be decorated with the official 2006 G8 Summit logo and the national flag of the U.S., Russia, Britain, France, Japan, Germany, Canada or Italy. Energy conservation, along with healthcare and education, are expected to be the main topics of discussion during the conference. GEM electric vehicles have a top speed of 25 mph and are made by DaimlerChrysler. Video after the jump…

Totally ghey. It does absolutely NOTHING for the environment, just like this summit is nothing but a big tea party for these “leaders.” The hipocrisy of it all.

You can question the motive all you like, but the fact remains – even one less ounce of hydroncarbons burned is BETTER for the enviorment. Your problem is that you don’t realize the change to being eco-friendly isn’t going to happen overnight, its going to take small steps. So, this is a tiny tiny step, atleast its a step – regardless of what evils they gather to plan.

Would I give up my cadillac/mercedes/BMW/Jaguar/C6 for a golf cart? ummmmmm no. And Madcapp, liberal is an insult; Environmentalism is the political equivalent of scientology. I do believe that people who see cars as nothing more than a appliance should conserve fuel so that we enthusiasts can have more for our turbo 4s ,I6s, v-8-12s M’s, AMG’s and other real cars

The CSIRO began ozone measurements in Melbourne in 1956 in cooperation with the Bureau of Meteorology and in 1982 total responsibility passed to the Bureau. So you tell me how in the world we can say the sky is falling, when the FACT is simply not enough time has passed to know what the normal cycle of the planet is? It cannot, and all of the billions that have been spent could not be used to address issue we KNOW exist?

“Hahahaha, you think “liberal” is an insult.”

Huh? Whatever…

This atttude is just great:

“I do believe that people who see cars as nothing more than a appliance should conserve fuel so that we enthusiasts can have more for our turbo 4s ,I6s, v-8-12s M’s, AMG’s and other real cars”

Translation: You worry about saving the enviorment and energy so I can be a glutton. Any savings in oil demand/prices we get becuase your car gets 40 MPG miles to the gallon is great becuase It makes gas cheaper for me to burn at less than 20MPG.

“Environmentalism is the political equivalent of scientology”

Translation: If you want clear air and clear water, your a nutty cult member.

I’m a liberal because I want clean air, clear water, and less energy usage or maybe I’m a conservative becuase I want to conserve our clean air, clean water, and energy.

You children and your liberal/conservative lables as insults. Clear sign of a parrot, not someone who has reviewed the information and conducted their own critical thinking.

Finally, NW-Mike, global warming and ozone delpetion are two different issues, regardless if you think they are fantasy or not. I’ve never heard anyone claim that ozone depletion is realted to auto emissions, except for leaky air conditioners. If your going to mouth off about how meaningless all the Earth science that’s been collected is, you should atleast know what idea it is your trying to discredit.

Is the G8 a new Pontiac? I didn’t know GM owned the SUmmit name and were planning to use it. I guess the G8 Summit will be Pontiacs version of the Buick Enclave/Saturn Outlook/GMC Acadia Platform

I don’t care if global warming does or doesn’t exist I believe we only take care of this planet for future generations and that it is wrong to waste anything or use more than you need

People who do not care about cars should not drive v-8 body on frame SUVs when the bastards could get by with a much lighter and livable car. Why should those of us who value the car and the act of driving be lumped together with those who don’t even know what makes the damn thing move? Modern environmentalists have blind faith in their beliefs and want to halt the technological and economic progress of man kind to save some trees and not disturb some animals; yes they are a nutty cult. Oh and by the way, a BMW M5 gets about 11 mpg, not 20:)
