With gas prices at record highs worldwide, people everywhere are looking for ways to reduce their energy costs. Some are buying more fuel-efficient vehicles and others are, well, just burning their old cars to the ground.
Earlier this morning, a 30-year old unemployed man in Germany decided he was through filling his car with pricey petrol and figured the best way to end his oil addiction was to burn his car to the ground. The yet-to-be-named individual drove his 1995 BMW 3-series (not pictured) onto the lawn outside of the Frankfurt convention center, poured a can of gas over it (which we find fairly ironic since he was protesting the high cost of gas) and then set the car ablaze, according to CNN.com.
By the time the fire department reached the inferno, the Bimmer was completely gutted.
The man has yet to be charged with a crime, but told local police he torched his car because he could no longer afford the gas to drive his vehicle. However, authorities are considering a number of chargers with penalties ranging from fines to prison time.
The average liter of gasoline currently retails for about 1.55 euros in Germany — the equivalent of $9.40 per gallon – but we can’t help but think that he might have been better off by just putting a ‘For Sale’ sign in the car’s window. But then again, the car market is pretty bad right now.

HemiReatrd, Honda and Toyota are efficient in Germany as well. And people who drive them in US generally are more educated (less violent and less prone to stupidity). You’ll never drive one.

There would now be two less gas-suckers if the stupid f*ck had set fire to the car while he was still in it.

xyunya, our history debate seems to continue
WW1 was started by Austria – it attacked Serbia after Gavrilo Princip assassinated Franz Ferdinand d’Este, successor to Austria-Hungary throne, in Sarajevo (Bosnia was anexed by Austria shortly before). It, of course, started chain reaction and Germany wasn’t too shy to join.
But I couldn’t agree more with your post no. 7
More to the point, I wonder how an unemployed man can keep a BMW on his driveway and how he managed to fill it with petrol up till today.

A 1995 325 with a 5MT should get around 30 mpg highway. Why not get creative and reduce weight by 300-400 lbs or run a fuel efficient chip or something.

My friend who went to Ecuador says if gas goes over $2 a gallon or $1.50 for diesel (I may be off by a 50 cents or so), the people riot, and everything shuts down until the price gets put back in place. Sometimes the riots last a few days; one time it lasted 2 weeks.

LamborghiniZ: E36 and E30 both have their strong points regardling handling… I do believe the E36 had better suspension at the rear… but the E30 was smaller and lighter, better balanced and very chuckable… Difficult to call really, but both great cars…
I have an E30 myself with the M-Technik setup (318is) which is now a 325 engined highway cruiser… Balance lost a bit so the advantage of the 318is’s light engine is gone… Great torque and power delivery from the 2.5 litre 6 pot though.

why burn your car? he could have just burned down a gas station, he’s already going to jail- if you are going to jail for something retarded – might as well make it worth it i say and he wouldn’t have to waste money in buying the gas to use since it’s already there at the pump..
