With gas prices at record highs worldwide, people everywhere are looking for ways to reduce their energy costs. Some are buying more fuel-efficient vehicles and others are, well, just burning their old cars to the ground.
Earlier this morning, a 30-year old unemployed man in Germany decided he was through filling his car with pricey petrol and figured the best way to end his oil addiction was to burn his car to the ground. The yet-to-be-named individual drove his 1995 BMW 3-series (not pictured) onto the lawn outside of the Frankfurt convention center, poured a can of gas over it (which we find fairly ironic since he was protesting the high cost of gas) and then set the car ablaze, according to CNN.com.

By the time the fire department reached the inferno, the Bimmer was completely gutted.

The man has yet to be charged with a crime, but told local police he torched his car because he could no longer afford the gas to drive his vehicle. However, authorities are considering a number of chargers with penalties ranging from fines to prison time.

The average liter of gasoline currently retails for about 1.55 euros in Germany — the equivalent of $9.40 per gallon – but we can’t help but think that he might have been better off by just putting a ‘For Sale’ sign in the car’s window. But then again, the car market is pretty bad right now.
