Finnish RallyCross driver Toomas "˜Topi' Heikkinen has survived a nasty practice crash ahead of the X Games RallyCross finals.
Heikkinen, 21, failed to make a routine 50-foot jump when the nose of his car dipped into the front edge of a steel ramp, bringing his Ford Fiesta rally car to a crunching halt before it flipped and landed on its roof. As Heikkinen struggled to clamber out of the vehicle, it then caught fire, as the dramatic video from ESPN highlights.

Heikkinen managed to escape the smouldering wreck. While a fire crew quickly put out the flames, paramedics rushed to the aid of Heikkinen who was complaining of abdominal pain and ankle pain. He was later cleared of any internal injuries, but did suffer a broken ankle putting him out of Sunday's event.
A competitor in the tough Global RallyCross Championship, Heikkinen calls Tanner Foust, Brian Deegan and Marcus Grönholm teammates as a member of the Ford team. Having previously raced karts and Formula Renaults, Heikkinen was also the 2010 Finnish RallyCross champion. His last two races in the Global RallyCross Championship saw him place 10th at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May and 18th on his last outing at the Texas Motor Speedway.
The X Games RallyCross Finals will be shown on ESPN between 3 and 5pm ET tonight.
