A customized Subaru Impreza WRX set up for drift duty by Team JapSpeed IJZ didn’t last long in the hands of thieves near Northamptonshire, England, last weekend thanks to the increasing power of social media.

The WRX was taken from a display stand at a Performance Vauxhall show at Santa Pod Raceway in Northamptonshire even though precautions had been made to prevent it from sneaking off.

A lucky cameraman spotted the WRX driving down the M1 and M25 expressways without license plates. Video footage was uploaded to YouTube, which helped spread word about the missing WRX. Police tracked it down two days later in Maidenhead, where it was missing its rear bumper, spoiler and some exterior lights.

But the fast discovery aided by YouTube helped police in Thames Valley and Bedfordshire arrest four suspects.
