Global car sales have slowed to a trickle, but there seems to be one segment of the industry that is completely recession proof – low-volume, high-dollar exotics. Not the Ferrari ’s of the world but rather the cars that make the Ferrari factory look like a high-volume operation. Cars like the Zenvo ST1.
Denmark-based Zenvo has announced that it will put its ST1 supercar into production next year. The two-door coupe looks like one of the meanest cars on the road, and has a stat sheet to match its angry face. Power is provided by a turbo and supercharged V8, producing an epic 1,104 horsepower and 1,056 lb-ft of torque. Despite making due with rear-drive only and a six-speed manual gearbox, the ST1 somehow manages to get enough power to the ground to rip off a 0-62 mph sprint in 3 seconds. Top speed is equally impressive, with electronic nannies cutting off the fun – or should we say sheer terror – at 232 mph.

Although the ST1’s impressive performance numbers can be directly linked to the car’s massive powerplant, some credit has to be given to the car’s body. At just over 15 feet long the ST1 isn’t exactly a big car and plenty of carbon fiber bits manage to keep the weight down to just 3,020 pounds. Not exactly Lotus light, but considering the ST1 comes standard with plenty of luxury amenities – including keyless entry, satellite navigation, power telescoping steering wheel and power-adjustable leather and Alcantar racing seats – not very portly either.

The Zenvo ST1 will be completely hand built, which explains why only 15 will roll off the production floor per year. No word on price, but expect the Zenvo ST1 to carry a price tag that reflects its supercar credentials.
