Mercedes boss Dieter Zetsche denied speculation the company may cut more than the planned 8,500 jobs, according to an interview published in daily Bild. “The figure 8,500 applies,” Zetsche told the newspaper. “It is important for us to further raise productivity at Mercedes and allow the company to grow in a healthy and profitable manner.” The German carmaker at the end of last month said it is cutting 8,500 jobs in Germany within the next 12 months, adding it will book a 950 mln eur charge due to the headcount reduction, of which the ‘major portion’ will be posted in the fourth quarter of 2005.
