Nissan announced earlier this month that it will be entering the North American light commercial vehicle segment, and now the Japanese automaker has announced another significant part of that puzzle. ZF will produce a new six-speed automatic transmission for use in Nissan’s North American LCVs.
According to Automotive News, ZF will produce the new transmission in Gainesville, Georgia and will supply Nissan’s production facility in Canton, Mississippi. The new unit will be ZF’s first automatic transmission produced in North America.
Production of the new transmission will begin in early 2010 to coincide with the launch of Nissan ’s light commercial vehicles.
