Fisker to build original car

Fisker Coachbuild this week disclosed plans to build a new car on an original chassis -- something it has never done before. The company -- founded by Aston Martin designer Henrik Fisker in 2005 -- made a name for itself by selling re-bodyied versions of the Mercedes SL and BMW 6-Series in small numbers. Mr. Fisker now plans to take his business to a new level by creating a car on an original platform, rather than re-skinning an existing car. The car will be Fisker's highest volume model to date, with a planned 400 units annually. It will cost around $100,000, making it the independent automaker's cheapest car, too. An official debut is planned for the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. The automaker is currently seeking venture capital to supports its efforts.
