Ferrari considers turbo V6s, confirms hybrid plans

Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, Ferrari's chief executive officer, has confirmed the automaker is working on hybrid powertrains for future models. Meanwhile, unconfirmed German media reports indicate the company is also contemplating turbocharged V6 engines as a means of improving fuel economy while maintaining high output.

Montezemolo commented on the company's hybrid in a recent interview with Germany's Welt am Sonntag. He said any gas-electric car made by the automaker would still be "fundamentally a Ferrari." This seems to echo a recent statement by Ferrari spokesperson Davide Kluzer that SUVs and sedans are something "we will never do."

Another report suggests Ferrari is considering developing a turbocharged V6 motor to strike a balance between performance and rising emissions standards. According to Germany's AutoTelegraaf the engine could be introduced between 2013 and 2016.

As for Ferrari's hybrid offerings, those are slated to arrive some time around 2015.
