Spied Again: 2010 BMW X5 xDrive50i (twin-turbo)

Although it remains unclear if the new BMW X5 model will wear the 'M' badge or simply be called the 'xDrive50i', but one thing is for sure -- the German automaker's 4.4L turbocharged V8 will see duty in the X5 sport utility vehicle.

Just as we suspected, BMW has started extreme durability testing in the southwestern part of the United States, taking advantage of the hot temperatures, miles of desert roadways and mountains with steep grades. One of the first to arrive is this twin-turbo V8-powered BMW X5.

According to our sources, the 4.4L V8 will be putting out 407 horsepower with the new model making its first appearance at an upcoming auto show. The turbo V8 model will adopt the same 'xDrive50i' badge as its X6 counterpart.

However, the rumor of this new model being the X5 M simply will not die. If BMW does indeed decide to go the M root, the 4.4L would likely up the ante to at least 500 horsepower. Stay tuned.
