Mercedes-Benz CLK coupe officially ends production

Mercedes-Benz has officially ended production of its popular CLK Coupe. First launched in the U.S. market in 1997, the CLK was a mish-mash of E-Class styling on the C-Class's platform, with a price tag slotting between both model lines.

Although the CLK's name won't live on, the spirit of the two-door will. Mercedes-Benz is planning on replacing the CLK-Class with a new E-Class coupe later this year. The current CLK will remain on sale until the E-Class coupe rolls into Mercedes dealerships.

Although the coupe-variant of the CLK is no longer in production, Mercedes will continue building the CLK convertible until June. That extended production run should keep dealers' lots stocked with cabrios until the E-Class convertible comes on line sometime next year.
