Although General Motors is killing off its performance division, now seems like one of the best times to be a Corvette fan. Following on the heels of the Corvette ZR1 and the Competition Sport, Chevrolet has announced the Corvette GT1 Championship Edition.

Available on coupe, convertible and Z06 models, the GT1 package is intended to commemorate the final year of the Corvette Racing C6.R team's participation in the GT1 class of ALMS and Le Mans.

The package will be available in a yellow base color with black accents, or with a black base paint and yellow accents. Yellow cars will receive black headlights with body colored door handles and a unique carbon fiber engine cover for both models. The Corvette Racing team's "˜Jake' logo will be used throughout the car, and the team's victories will be displayed on the lower portion of the Corvette's door.

Inside, the special "˜Vette will feature GT1 embroidery on the seats and center armrest, with cars equipped with black leather sporting yellow accent stitching.

The GT1 won't feature any changes underhood, although coupe and convertible models will come equipped with the Z51 and performance exhaust packages.

Only 600 examples of the Corvette GT1 will be produced -- 100 of each model in each color -- with the package tacking on $7,840 to the base price of the C6 Corvette. Sales are slated to begin this spring.
