Report: Production Volvo S60 will not appear at Frankfurt show

Volvo ceased production of the current-generation S60 sedan in June, but a replacement could still be several months off. Volvo was believed to have been prepping the production version of the next S60 for a September Frankfurt Motor Show reveal, but sources have indicated the Swedish automaker has cancelled those plans.

According to Auto Telegraaf, Volvo has decided to cancel the S60's Frankfurt debut. No official explanation was given for the move, but tighter budgets and Volvo's pending sale are likely the leading factors.

In lieu of its Frankfurt debut, look for the production S60 to bow at the Los Angeles Auto Show later this year, or possibly the Detroit or Geneva show in early 2010. The S60's market launch had already been delayed until mid-2010, but it remains to be seen if Volvo's decision to introduce the car at a later show will further delay that launch date.
