Chrysler to show electric Fiat 500, entire 500 range at Detroit show

Chrysler isn't scheduled for a press conference at this year's North American International Auto Show in Detroit, but the Michigan automaker will have plenty going on in its booth. In addition to a sneak peak at the first Chrysler-badged Lancia model, Chrysler will also show an electric version of the Fiat 500.

According to Automotive News, an electric version of the Fiat 500 will be on hand at the Chrysler booth when the Detroit show kicks off next month. Although there are no immediate plans for a retail version of the electric 500, a gas-powered version of the small car will arrive in Chrysler showrooms by the end of 2010.

Chrysler will also use the Detroit show to display its entire lineup of U.S.-bound 500 models. A standard version of the car will be on display, but Chrysler will also show the open-air 500C convertible and the high-performance 500 Abarth. The 500C and 500 Abarth are expected to hit the U.S. market in 2011.

Thanks to Chrysler's Fiat connection, Ferrari will again be displaying cars at the Detroit show. Ferrari pulled out of the Detroit show two years ago but will be making a return appearance in a corner of the Chrysler booth with the company's new 458 Italia model. Maserati's GranCabrio will also be on hand.
