Spyker to sell cars through Saab stores

Spyker has announced it plans to expand its global dealer network from 35 to 60 this year by taking advantage of its newly acquired Saab brand.

Spyker remains one of the smaller niche brands in the world, but that could change in the coming years as the Swedish supercar maker announced this week it plans to expand its global presence by offering its cars at some Saab dealerships.

Under Spyker's new plan, it would sell its vehicles through some global Saab dealerships. Spyker recently purchased the ailing Saab brand from General Motors.

Spyker currently has 35 global dealerships - including 13 in the United States - but the Dutch automaker wants to bump that figure to 60 by the end of 2010 through its tie-up with Saab. That dealer network would grow to 90 by the end of 2011.

"We are signing up Spyker dealerships left, right and center," said Spyker CEO Victor Muller.

Although Saab dealers are anxious to add a Spyker franchise, it remains to be seen if the plan will be a success. With Saab's flagship 9-5 sedan topping out at about $50,000, there is quite the price disparity with Spyker's $200,000 vehicle lineup. Moreover, Spyker only sold 59 vehicles last year, meaning the company could potentially have more stores than sales at the end of 2010.
