Report: Porsche to offer every model as a hybrid

In a sign of the times, Porsche has announced that it will eventually offer a hybrid variant of every model in its lineup.

Toyota has already made it known that it plans to offer a hybrid-variant of every model in its lineup by the next decade, but a rather surprising automaker has announced a similar goal.

In a recent interview with Automotive News, Porsche development chief Wolfgang Duerheimer revealed that the German automaker plans to eventually offer a hybrid version of every model it produces. The hybrid push is part of Porsche's initiative to comply with upcoming emission regulations.

"In the future, we will have hybrid drive in every model line," Duerheimer said.

Porsche currently makes a hybrid version of its Cayenne SUV and will soon launch a gas-electric version of its Panamera sedan. Duerheimer revealed that the Panamera Hybrid will be able to travel up to four miles on all-electric power.

Duerheimer hinted that hybrid versions of the company's 911, Boxster and Cayman are also in the pipelines, but failed to reveal any concrete time line. However, Duerheimer did confirm that the production-bound 918 hybrid super car will aid in the company's hybrid development. "We want to learn how we can electrify all our sports cars in the future with the help of this short production run," Duerheimer said.

Until Porsche's hybrid models come online, expect the German automaker to employ some CO2-cutting four-cylinder engines.
