Ferrari to debut 612 shooting brake in Geneva?

A Ferrari station wagon? If the latest reports are accurate, that's exactly what we'll see at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

Ferrari head Luca di Montezemolo recently stated that "a very different Ferrari" would bow at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, with a new report revealing just how different that vehicle will be.

Following di Montezemolo statement, rumors surfaced that Ferrari was readying a new hybrid model for the Geneva show. Recent spy shots seemed to support those reports, but it appears di Montezemolo wasn't referring to the vehicle's drivetrain.

According to AutoExpress, Ferrari will unveil a shooting brake concept based on its 612 Scaglietti at the Geneva show. Penned in-house, the 612 shooting brake is said to preview a future Ferrari model.

"We know there can never be a Ferrari SUV," one source told AutoExpress. "But we would like to find out what we can put the marque's DNA into and still have it accepted as a Ferrari."

The 612 is set to ride off into the sunset within the next few years, and the shooting brake variant will likely be the nameplates send off. Like its coupe counterpart, the hatchback will feature a front-mounted V12 engine.

However, if the estate model proves to be popular, Ferrari could offer the body style on the 612's successor. The 612's replacement is expected sometime within the next 2-3 years.
