NAIAS LIVE: 2012 Mercedes-Benz C-Class Sedan

Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled its 2012 C-Class Sedan. In addition to new styling tweaks, the new model year brings a more fuel-efficient variant to the United States market.

Although not a radical departure from the current model, the redesigned 2012 C-Class sedan features a revised front fascia complete with an aluminum hood and updated LED headlights. The rear of the car has also received a modest update, now sporting new-look taillights.

The 2012 C-Class' interior has also been given the once over, featuring an overall design more in line with the larger E-Class. New tech is also on board for 2012, including Mercedes' Attention Assist and Blind Spot Assist.

But the big news for 2012 is the addition of the C250 to the U.S. lineup. The C250 is powered by a turbocharged 1.8L engine, delivering 201 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of torque. However, efficiency is the name of the game, with the C250 returning a combined 24mpg.

The mid-level C300 returns for 2012, offering buyers 228 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. The addition of two-cylinders does come at a cost, though, reducing combined fuel economy to 20mpg.

At the upper end of the C-Class range there is new life in the form of a direct-injected 3.5L V6. Replacing the 268 horsepower V6 previously available in the C350, the new mill generates 302 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque.

The new model is slated to hit the market next summer.
