Mosler's next supercar - the Raptor- to boast 650HP, weigh 2,500 lbs [Update]

There's fast...and then there's Mosler fast. The next car to come from Mosler - the Raptor - will most certainly qualify as certifiably "Mosler fast."

Mosler, a little known supercar manufacturer that calls Florida home, is busy creating another neck-snapping beast to replace the aging MT900 - to be called the Raptor.

The Raptor will be joining some fairly well established and respected modern machines that share that name, ranging from the F22 Raptor by Lockheed Martin, the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor off-road beast and even one of the tallest and fastest roller coasters in the world. Mosler's Raptor, however, hopes to establish itself as its own, worthy brand as one of the fastest supercars ever built thanks to an absurd power-to-weight ratio of nearly three horsepower per lb, according to an exec speaking with Automobile Magazine.

UPDATE: Mosler has contacted Leftlane to let us know that their engineer misspoke when suggesting the Raptor would weigh 500 lbs less than Photon. What the engineer intended to suggest was that the Raptor would weigh 500 lbs less than the Pagani Huayra, which weighs just under 3,000 lbs.

This beast of a supercar will utilize a 7.0-liter twin-turbocharged Chevrolet LS7, tuned to crank out 100 more horsepower than the Photon's current 550 rating, while simultaneously shedding an almost impossible 500 lbs! The result? If claimed numbers are met, the Raptor will boast 650 horsepower while weighing about 2,500 lbs! While 650 horsepower may not seem that outrageous in today's hypercar-filled world - especially coming from a twin-turbo 7.0-liter V8 - but when paired with a 2,500lb total weight, the Raptor should have an edge of outrageous supercars like the Pagani Huayra.

Speaking of the 2012 Raptor, J. Todd Wagner, Mosler director of engineering, said, "It's going to blow your mind. It gets a massive injection of sex appeal - in fact, I designed the nose after the face of the most beautiful, exotic woman I've ever seen. The powerplant adds another level of exotic to the surface, featuring twin Garrett turbos as an integral part of the exterior design. With 100 more horses and weighing 500 pounds less [than the Pagani Huarya's 3,000 lbs], the Raptor is going to whip the Pagani Huayra."

Mosler hasn't shared much else about their next supercar, but stay tuned for details as they become available.
