Audi-sourced diesel to give Porsche Cajun 309 horsepower

Porsche's upcoming Cajun SUV will reportedly come fitted with a 309 horsepower version of Audi's 3.0L twin-turbo diesel V6.

Porsche confirmed earlier this month that it was working on a new SUV model to slot beneath the Cayenne, but kept mum on the ute's details. However, a new report has shed some light on what to expect under the SUV's hood.

The Cajun is expected to offer both V6 and V8 gas engine options, but a new report indicates at least one diesel engine will be on the compact SUV's option list. Porsche currently sells a diesel version of its Cayenne SUV in countries outside of the U.S.

According to Autocar, Porsche will offer the Cajun with a new version of Audi's 3.0L twin-turbo diesel V6. The new 3.0L is expected to develop 309 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, trumping the Cayenne Diesel's 240 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque.

Given its smaller size and increased power, the Cajun diesel should be a serious performer, with its 0-60 rating likely to fall in the 6 second range.

The Cajun's platform mate, the Audi Q5, will be the first vehicle to use the new 3.0L diesel early next year. The oil burner will eventually be offered in the Audi A3, A4, A5, A6, A7 A8 and Q7, and could also find its way under the hood of the Cayenne.
