Mercedes CLS Shooting Brake is now official, not coming to the U.S.

Mercedes' most stylish cargo hauler has been revealed in official photos.

Mercedes has now gone ahead and made its CLS Shooting Brake official. The car was originally shown at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show and is basically a station wagon version of the stylish CLS sedan.

The automaker calls it a five-door coupe, just like it called the original CLS a four-door coupe. The cargo area is lined with cherry wood floor, though carpet is also present. Aluminum loading rails are options.

The available gasoline engines include a 3.5-liter, 306-horsepower V6 in the CLS350 and a 4.6-liter, twin-turbo V8 making 408 horsepower in the CLS500. Turbodiesels are very popular in Europe, so there are also two oil-burners available. The entry-level one is a 204-horsepower, 2.1-liter inline-four of the CLS250 CDI and a 265-horsepower, 3.0-liter V6 in the CLS350 CDI. Buyers will have the option of all-wheel drive in the gasoline engine models only.

Any of the four motivators are hooked up to a 7-speed automatic transmission. As usual, Mercedes-Benz will limit the top speed of all models to 155mph. An electro-mechanical power steering system is part of all CLS Shooting Brakes.

It's likely Mercedes will eventually add an AMG-tuned version to the line-up that will do battle with Cadillac's 556-horsepower CTS-V Wagon.

Shipping dates or pricing for the car hasn't yet been released, however. Unfortunately, the car isn't slated for sales in the U.S. due to the poor sales of station wagons, with buyers opting for SUVs instead.
