Citroen DS2 coming in 2014?

The DS2 will borrow design cues from the REVOLTe concept.

A new report finds that Citroën's premium DS line will launch an entry-level model called DS2 next year. Designed to slot under the popular DS3 hatchback, the DS2 will be aimed squarely at the Fiat 500 and the Opel Adam.

The upcoming hatchback will share its platform with the Peugeot 208 sub-compact but its body will borrow a sizable amount of design cues from the retro-styled REVOLTe concept that was presented at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. Primarily aimed at young and trendy buyers, the car will offer a high degree of customization including two-tone paint jobs, a wide array of wheel designs and miscellaneous stickers.

The customization will continue inside and, like all members of the DS family, the 2 will pack a full assortment of high-tech features including a touch screen-based infotainment system.

Technical details are still vague but German magazine Auto Bild reports the DS2 will be offered with PSA's 90-horsepower three-cylinder engine and a 155-horsepower version of the 1.6-liter THP four-cylinder developed jointly by Peugeot and BMW. A host of diesel-burning HDi mills will also be on offer.

If the rumor proves true, Citroën will unveil the DS2 at the next edition of the Paris Motor Show that will open its doors in September of 2014. A more expensive version of the DS2 with a retractable cloth roof panel will be added to the lineup later in the production run.
