The new Equinox diesel will be one of the most efficient vehicles in its class.

Chevrolet has announced highway fuel economy ratings for its upcoming 2018 Equinox diesel model. According to Chevy, the Equinox diesel will arrive with a highway rating of 39mpg when equipped with front wheel drive. That's better than the Nissan Rogue Hybrid (35mpg) and the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (30mpg), making the Equinox diesel the most fuel efficient highway cruiser in its class.

"Chevrolet continues to lead with technologies that offer customers more choice," said Steve Majoros, marketing director for Cars and Crossovers. "Our three-engine turbo-charged Equinox lineup means we can provide drivers more options for the performance and efficiency they desire."

The Equinox diesel is equipped with a new 1.6L turbo engine that delivers 240 lb-ft of torque. In order to help with city fuel economy, the Equinox diesel is also equipped with an automatic start/stop system. However, city mileage has not been released.

The 2018 Chevrolet Equinox diesel will arrive in dealer showrooms this fall with a starting price of $31,435, including destination.
