Optional HID headlights have results in a Top Safety Pick Plus ratings for two of Kia's popular models.

Both the 2018 Kia Soul and Sportage have earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's best overall rating of Top Safety Pick Plus. The top rating applies to Soul and Sportage models equipped with optional high-intensity discharge headlights.In order to achieve the IIHS' Top Safety Pick Plus, a vehicle must earn top ratings of "good" in five crashworthiness tests - small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength and head restraints. It must also earn a rating of "advanced" or "superior" in front crash prevention and a headlight rating of "acceptable" or "good."

"Kia's world-class lineup continues to earn quality, reliability and safety awards at an increasing rate and these IIHS Top Safety Pick Plus ratings for Soul and Sportage reflect Kia's continuous improvement and effort to improve all aspects of safety," said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning, KMA.

The Soul and Sportage bring Kia's Top Safety Pick Plus count to six. Other vehicles earning the rating include the Forte, Optima, Cadenza and Sorento.
