Waymo vehicle involved in crash in Arizona

Police say the van was operating in autonomous mode when it was struck by an errant Honda Accord that swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid another vehicle.

A Waymo minivan has been involved in an accident Friday afternoon in Chandler, Arizona.

Police say a Honda coupe was traveling eastbound when it swerved into oncoming traffic to avoid a vehicle traveling northbound, according to an ABC15 report. Waymo's Chrysler Pacifica was traveling westbound when it was struck by the Honda.

The Waymo van is said to have been operating in autonomous mode at the time of the crash. Its driver reportedly sustained minor injuries.

The accident occurred less than two months after a self-driving Uber SUV struck and killed a pedestrian in nearby Tempe.
