Kia recalls Sorento over 'inoperable' steering
A supplier may not have properly welded a component that keeps the steering column in place.
Kia has issued a small-batch recall for the 2018 Sorento, warning of bad welds in nearly 100 vehicles.
Dealer notifications and customer complaints raised a flag in July over "inoperable power steering." A subsequent investigation uncovered botched welds that can allow the steering column to separate.
"If the steering column separates, it can cause a loss of steering ability, increasing the risk of a crash," the recall documents note.
The company plans to replace the defective cowl crossbars in every affected vehicle. Repairs are expected to begin later this month.
