Feds investigate GM recall for faulty wiper motors

The NHTSA has continued to receive hundreds of complaints for vehicles not included in the original campaign.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has launched an investigation into a General Motors recall for faulty windshield wipers.

The automaker limited its original campaign to the 2013 Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain, installing an improved wiper motor/transmission assembly and relocating a drain hole in a panel at the base of the windshield.

The NHTSA has continued to receive hundreds of complaints of wiper failures for vehicles not included in the first recall. The reports are tied to the 2010-2012 and 2014-2016 model years for both the Equinox and Terrain.

Out of the 249 complaints involving the additional model years, more than 100 have been filed this year alone. Investigators are presumably attempting to verify if the failures are occurring at an increasing rate.
