Pininfarina announces details of 1,900-horsepower electric car

The car will be called the Battista.

Pininfarina, the legendary Italian design firm and coachbuilder, has announced the name and a few details about its upcoming supercar. The new electric sports car will be called the Battista, after founder Battista "Pinin” Farina.

"This is genuinely a dream come true. My grandfather always had the vision that one day there would be a stand-alone range of Pininfarina-branded cars,” said current chairman Paolo Pininfarina, Battista's grandson.

The EV aims to be the fastest car to emerge from Italy, with an estimated 1,900 horsepower and nearly 1,700 lb-ft of torque. Pininfarina says the car "has the potential to accelerate to 62 mph in less than two seconds, faster than a Formula 1 car, and break the 250 mph top speed barrier - all with a potential zero emissions range of over 300 miles.”

Pininfarina hopes this Battista will headline a new portfolio of EV models, built in conjunction with Rimac and backed by Mahindra & Mahindra.

Only 150 Battistas will be produced starting in 2020, with 50 allocated to the US, 50 to Europe, and 50 to the Middle East and Asia. Prices will range from $2 million to $2.5 million.
