Tesla senior designer leaves for Apple

Andrew Kim worked with Microsoft before heading to Tesla to help with the Model S, X, 3 and Y.

Apple has apparently hired another important Tesla worker, former senior designer Andrew Kim.

The move was confirmed in LinkedIn and Instagram posts spotted by The Verge, indicating his first day of work at Apple earlier this month.

Kim had worked for Microsoft in 2012, contributing to several projects including the Windows user interface and Xbox. He later moved to Tesla and claims to have had a role in designing all of the company's current models along with upcoming products like the Model Y and next-gen Roadster.

The hire naturally revives speculation that Apple may be working on a car. Previous reports suggest the company had been considering in-house development of an entire car, however the project was later scaled back with a focus on autonomous software that powers self-driving vehicles.

Tesla's former chief vehicle engineer, Doug Field, also returned to Apple, his former employer, earlier this year.
