A snazzier exterior and more practical interior are also part of the refresh.

The 2019 Mazda CX-3 will boast a refreshed exterior design, an upgraded interior, and a slight bump in performance. The mid-generational update was revealed at the New York International Auto Show.

Visually, the 2019 CX-3 adds a bit more sparkle to its designer suit. Chrome accents highlight the front spoiler and continue down the length of the car, sprucing up the black trim on the rocker panels. Additionally, piano black accents can be found throughout, trimming the B- and C-pillars as well as forming the and fog lamp bezels. New 18-inch wheels class up the lower half nicely.

Even trademark design cues get a refresh. A new grille sports four pairs of horizontal brightwork as opposed to the 2018's seven evenly spaced lines. Night views of the The CX-3 will glow with a new taillight signature, a circle-line intersection that complements Mazda's trademark headlight designs. The overall look is more premium wagon and less utilitarian crossover.

Updated tuning to the SkyActiv 2.0-liter engine increase output to 148 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque, both up two of their respective units from the 2018 model. Perhaps more importantly, the engine now features Mazda's unique G-Vectoring Control, a subtle system that uses steering and throttle inputs to reduce torque, and thus transfer weight, for better grip in turns, especially in low-traction situations.

Cabin-wise, the seats are of an all-new design, wider and more supportive. Leather also becomes available for the first time in higher trims. A new center console with storage and integrated armrest sits between the front seats, made possible by the addition of an electronic parking brake (alas, handbrake turns are no longer possible).

Rear passengers get a center armrest too, with built-in cupholders. Thicker door panels, headliner, and rear windows, as well as redesigned door seams, make for a quieter cabin.

Mazda has not yet disclosed pricing for the 2019 CX-3. Expect an announcement before it goes on sale this spring.
