Acura will tackle Pikes Peak with an electric NSX.

Acura has unveiled its NSX-inspired EV Concept that will compete in the Electric Modified Class at the 2016 Broadmoor Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The Pikes Peak Hill Climb is scheduled to take place on June 26.In a nutshell, the EV Concept is an all-electric drivetrain housed in the body of an Acura NSX. That electric drivetrain consists of four electric motors, providing the EV Concept with Super Handling All-Wheel Drive. Acura says the EV Concept is also the first application of four-wheel independent torque allocation.

Acura has not released any official specs for the electric drivetrain, but the automaker says the setup in the EV Concept is three times the total system output of the CR-Z-based electric prototype that won the Electric Modified Class last year.

"We've been tuning the car for several weeks at Pikes and have advanced its performance significantly," said Tetsuya Yamano, who will be driving the EV Concept. "We're honored to be running at Pikes in this historical, anniversary year - an event respected by racing fans all over the world."

Acura will also be campaigning two other conventionally-powered NSX race cars at the Pikes Peak event.
