Upcoming Alfa Romeo 8C to get 800 horsepower?

The company is expected to coax 600 horsepower from its twin-turbo V6, while an electric front axle is said to provide another 200 ponies.

Alfa Romeo's upcoming 8C may be even more powerful than originally thought, as engineers reportedly squeeze more output from its gasoline engine and hybrid system.

The revived 8C is said to be powered by the Ferrari-developed 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 that delivers 505 horsepower in the Giulia Quadrifoglio. CAR Magazine suggeststhe company expects to coax around 600 horsepower from the engine, increasing boost and upgrading its internals.

The latest rumor indicates the 8C's electrified front axle will be borrowed from the Maserati Alfieri, adding another 200 horsepower. Together, the V6 and dual electric motors add up to 800 ponies.

The supercar will presumably have plenty of torque on tap to hit its target of a sub-three-second sprint to 62 mph.

Alfa Romeo plans to bring the new 8C to market before 2022, likely with a price tag well into the six-figure range.
