JLR is the next company to move to all electrification.

Following in the footsteps of Volvo and Maserati, Jaguar Land Rover has announced that it will only introduce electrified vehicles from 2020 on.

JLR's announcement came on the same day that the company introduced the Jaguar FUTURE-TYPE concept, which is an all-electric autonomous car that previews what transportation might look like in 2040. Jaguar has already announced that it will soon launch the all-electric I-PACE SUV to take on the Tesla Model X.

"Every new Jaguar Land Rover model line will be electrified from 2020, giving our customers even more choice," said Dr. Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive Officer. "We will introduce a portfolio of electrified products across our model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid vehicles. Our first fully electric performance SUV, the Jaguar I-PACE, goes on sale next year."

Although JLR's announcement signals a new push toward an all-electric future, it will likely take the company some time to get there. In the medium term, we expect most of JLR's products to pair a conventional internal combustion engine with some form of an electric hybrid system.
