Aston Martin Rapid E to get 602 hp; production late 2019

Like Porsche's Taycan, the Rapide E will be powered by an 800-volt battery system.

Aston Martin has announced official specifications for its first all-electric vehicle, the Rapide E.

Twin electric motors will produce 'over' 602 horsepower and 701 pound-feet of torque, making the EV the most powerful Rapide model.

Like the Porsche Taycan, the Rapide E will be powered by an 800-volt battery system. The 65-kWh pack is comprised of more than 5,600 lithium-ion cells in the popular 18650 format, used in a wide range of applications from the Tesla Model S to laptops and cordless drills.

Aston Martin claims a range of over 200 miles under the WLTP test cycle, with a charging rate of 185 miles per hour via a 400-volt charger or 310 miles per hour using a dedicated 800-volt connection at 100kW or higher.

Projected top speed for the EV is 155 mph, with a sub-4.0-second launch to 60 mph and a 50-70 mph time of just 1.5 seconds.

Customer deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2019, with production limited to just 155 units.
