The sedan is the first production model to showcase Hyundai's new 'Sensuous Sportiness' design philosophy.
Hyundai has revealed the Lafesta sedan at the Beijing auto show, highlighting a more aggressive brand strategy for the Chinese market.
Borrowing its name from the Italian word for 'festival,' the sporty sedan is said to be specifically geared for "a new mainstream generation from the '80s and '90s" in the world's largest automotive market.
The Korean automaker last month introduced the Le Fil Rouge Concept, previewing a new design philosophy of "Sensuous Sportiness." The Lafesta is the first production model to follow the theme.
"China is evolving quickly and so are Chinese people's attitudes. They are more self-confident, positive and creative," says Hyundai China design director Simon Loasby. "The Lafesta will help us reflect this shifting trend."
The sedan is powered by a 1.6-liter GDi engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Additional details will be disclosed ahead of market arrival later this year.
