Only 500 BMW 30 Jahre M3s will be made worldwide.
BMW has announced an anniversary model celebrating three decades of the iconic M3. Called the "30 Jahre M3," which translates from German to "30 Years M3."
The 30 Jahre M3 is based on a 2017 BMW M3 with Competition Package, complete with the 444-horsepower twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-six, adaptive suspension, and active differential. On top of that, BMW adds a black-tipped M exhaust and the 20-inch alloy stars of the M4 GTS.
Visually, the 30 Jahre M3 will be finished exclusively in Macao Blue, a color that was an optional extra on the original 1986 BMW M3. Matching the exterior will be an interior with bespoke seats that have either a gray or matching blue inserts, "30 Jahre M3" headrests, and seat belts featuring BMW's M tricolor stripes. Naturally, special "30 Jahre M3" badging appears on the door sills, fender gills and a dash plaque.
Each plaque is individually numbered, too, because there will only be 500 30 Jahre M3s built worldwide. BMW has not divulged how many will be coming to the US.
The original M3 debuted in 1985 as a 1986 model, and quickly became BMW's most famous sports sedan. Of course, that model was offered as a two-door, but BMW's updated naming conventions mean that the tribute M3 is a sedan.
