The BMW i8 roadster will finally become a reality.

BMW's i8 roadster will finally make its long-awaited debut at this year's Los Angeles auto show, a new report claims.BMW has been teasing us with the idea of an open-air i8 since showing the i8 Concept Spyder in 2012, but Automotive News says our wait is nearly over; the publication claims BMW will introduce the production i8 roadster at this fall's LA auto show.

BMW has yet to confirm an LA debut for its i8 convertible, but the German automaker issued a video last month that previewed such a model. There have also been numerous reports that BMW is putting the finishing touches on an i8 spyder model.

The i8 roadster will be based on an updated version of the i8 that will include a few styling tweaks and an improved hybrid drivetrain. The new i8 will reportedly arrive with more than 400 combined horsepower, as well as a larger battery that should provide 50 percent better electric range.

Pricing is far from official, but look for the i8 roadster to retail from north of $150,000. The convertible hybrid should arrive in dealer showrooms during the first part of 2018.

BMW is expected to replace the current i8 in 2022, at which time the car could switch to a full-electric drivetrain.
