Poor sales early in the year already led to speculation that the flagship sedan would not survive. The trouble appears to have continued into the summer, with an average of just 75 units leaving showrooms each month. In comparison, the lower Chrysler 300 trim levels account for an average of 4300 sales each month.
Chrysler brand chief Al Gardner has told Motor Trend the 300 SRT will likely be discontinued in the US market, though its popularity in the Middle East and other select markets could keep it alive internationally.
The Jeep brand has been a shining star for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, and the Grand Cherokee SRT currently outsells all other SRT-badged models in the company's broader lineup. The company is unlikely to axe the powerful SUV amid strong performance in the market, though earlier reports suggest it may still be on the chopping block down the road.
FCA earlier this year announced a brand restructuring that would place SRT back under Dodge, where it already serves as the top trim level for the Charger and Challenger. The company is rumored to be working on SRT variants of the Dart and Journey, though launch targets remain unclear.
