The automaker has adapted the Mercedes-Benz Vito to serve as a drone launchpad for delivery of small online orders.
Daimler has reported a 'resounding success' using drones and Mercedes-Benz Vito vans to deliver online product orders around Zurich.
The pilot program has completed around 100 successful flights using a pair of delivery drones and two Vito vans, each outfitted with integrated landing/launch platforms on the roof.
"The aim was to test the technology and the concept in real-world conditions and find out where optimisation was required," said Mercedes-Benz Vans head of future transportation, Stefan Maurer. "We also wanted to know how people would react to this new form of transportation."
The automaker expects the project to evolve quickly and expand into new potential applications.
